High Level Occupational Standards

A sector body wanted to develop Occupational Standards for top-level policy executives.

The approach, in brief ,was to develop an occupational map outlining the work and the context(s) within which specific roles are undertaken. A functional map was then developed which breaks down the role into key functions in order to identify the skills and knowledge required.

Using this framework, detailed Occupational Standards were developed which clearly identify the skills and knowledge of those working in the role. A specialist Working Group provided specific technical advice on the occupational role in question.

The outcome was a set of detailed occupational standards that can be used in a wide variety of ways to underpin such things as recruitment, appraisal, job specification, on-going training, skill-gap analysis, course development and a great deal more.
